To see some inspirations for future projects at the farm, check out my Pallet Board. With construction still under way at the farm, I've had to resort to function as well as fashion. Many of you have seen some of the Farm's Creations, for those of you that have not.

Yup, my incredibly gorgeous farm table made from pallets that were going to be throw away.

Mr. Norm rescued four solid mahogany shipping pallets that were destined for the dumpster.

Only one was used in constructing the table. My girls keep dropping rather large hints that they know exactly how at least two of the remaining ones can be put to use.

While we're on the subject of my girls. There is another project where pallets were put to use on the farm. One that when their "OLD" parents first constructed it, my girls were pretty much mortified.

Can you guess what it is? Let me change the focus.

Yup, our "temporary" outdoor shower!

Their reaction made Mr. Norm and I laugh. While they were under our guidance and protection, they were pretty much sheltered. Now that they are married and wonderful young women, they are seeing a side of their parents, that sometimes shocks them. Can I tell you, that it is quite fun to do!

Our love for our "temporary" outdoor shower has evolved into another project on the farm.

A slab has been poured, all the connections for Hot and Cold Water, along with waste water disposal have been made.

And a pallet or two has been saved to put to use in our new permanent outdoor shower.

They still claim that we are suffering from a major dose of midlife crisis'. I claim, we should of taken this leap years ago. You can read how we sold our beautiful home, trekked out in the middle of 128 acres here and here. No water, no electricity, just two "OLD" folks in a camper with all their belongings packed into a storage locker, looking for a simpler life. Every morning when I venture out to take my shower, I Thank the Good Lord that we found it!

btw... I'm still enjoying my 40's, wonder what adventures we'll be enjoying when I enter my 50's. My girls may not be able to handle it!

It has been a busy, busy summer. I'm so ready for the fall and a bit of a slow down. I have so much to share with you and want so much to catch up with you all. I'm sure I'll be days visiting and discovering all the treats you've had to share over the last couple of months. Hope you all had a fabulous summer!

I've had such a blast this summer. Had the opportunity to take part in several weddings where I was able to work with some super creative DIY'ers. Have tons to share! This is one where I was the wedding planner/caterer along with my sisters/partners of our Course ~ Lakeview.

The wedding of Lee and Jessi-Sue. I can not tell you how much I came to LOVE this family. The wedding was in the families apple orchard and Jessi's style was so much fun to work with. When access to a tent to hide Jessi and her wedding party in the orchard fell through, went to work creating the wall of apple bins ~ how cool is that! I'm hoping to get some photos from the photographer, as I was busy during the wedding itself, with all the details of the day. You wait till you see the beautiful bride and groom in this setting ~ WOW!

It was so much fun for me to not only be creative with the wedding planning,

but also with the food presentation. The bride works part time at the local auction hall,

she and her mom spent an entire year purchasing tables and chairs for the big day.

No uncomfortable folding chairs at this reception. The guests were wowed walking into this tent.

Apple bins as buffet tables, $1 old pictures painted with blackboard paint and used as menu boards,

And oh, the year long collecting of cookie jars to be used as centerpieces...

A perfect example of how this couple's personality was reflected in every detail of this lovingly fun filled day of celebrations! In an upcoming post I'm going to share the DVD of their Wedding Vow Rap ~ so much fun!

So how does one bring all those styles together in a home that in it's present form totals a whopping 815 square feet. Did I tell you that the farm house in it's present form is 815 square feet. To bring in all
my loves, I'd need 81,500 square feet. It may fit on the property, but I don't think it fits
in the long term plan. I'll get back to my question. What do you think of natural pine?

This loft is very similar to our loft at the farm. Because of roof lines, we do not have the window, but
the peak, the pine, the coziness are all very similar. We've used natural pine in several spots

Mr. Norm loves the natural. Not sure I'd want to discover the consequences of painting it white.
He is so good at helping me accomplish just about any look I desire in the farmhouse. The pine is

one exception. Compromise in a marriage is a good thing. Even though he just installed that ceiling fan
a year ago, he is willing to move it to another area of the farmhouse, so I can install a fabulous light
I found. So excited to see it in its place.

You know as I live with it, I tend to agree with Mr.Norm. I'm loving the au natural. When I retreat
to my loft at night, I LOVE the feeling of warmth, coziness, and comfort it gives me.
Now to find the perfect bedding.

Storage at the Farm & A failed attempt

We've had some really fun cooking classes at the Winery over the past few weeks. Making fresh pasta by hand, with Pesto, Alfredo, and Vegetable Primavera.

Baked Pears in Spiced Wine for Dessert.

I love my job! At the farm, we've also been busy. The farmhouse in its present state is much smaller than our last home. Storage and shelving is a must, as I am not ready to part with many of my vintage junky finds and creations. A quick and easy solution ~ IKEA. Still in progress.

The space behind the stairs is narrow and if we had started at the floor and stacked them, we would not of been able to access many of the cubbies. Mr. Norm had the solution. We are staggering them up the wall.
Building muscles as we go. With the room being small, I love how having the floor clear around the back of the stairs gives the illusion of a much bigger space. We are making some custom changes to give these great units a farm flair touch. Final reveal to come soon. One touch, I've been working on this morning. Indecisive with the choices of baskets and files at IKEA during our trip down, I came home with none. I knew I wanted storage containers, but was not really excited with the appearance of all that I saw. Solution, I picked up a few at Target, pulled out my paint brush and have been playing this morning. I am in love with Mustard. Do you know how hard it is to find storage bins in Mustard, let the painting begin.

Using the piece that is tucked into the bottom of these storage bins, I discover some experiments that are a success and some like this one a failure. With inspiration from the failed attempt, I am busy painting, painting, painting, to complete the other 10 bins.

You can always learn from failures, I'm excited with where this experiment took me...

~When The Farmer Is Away~

Really want to join in on the fun at Verde Farm, but have a busy schedule. I'm doing several Fresh From the Garden Cooking Demos at our local Garden Show. Welcome to YUM ~ Top 5, This week at the farm there were many things that made my heart smile.

A family trip to Boston and IKEA ~ YUM #1

We stayed the night at Grammie T's, always fun to see her and spend time with her.

The ULTIMATE Junker ~ I have been blessed to receive many of her hand me downs

This beauty is one of them, soon to make a home in our bath/laundry room. It has a fabulous

large top, perfect for a folding station, a little clean up and some detail...

Old Junk ~ New Home ~YUM #2

The farmhouse is small, much smaller than the home we moved from. I plan to share the details in a future post: Living Small. When we moved we weeded out a lot. Yet, there is a lot that I am unwilling to part with. I am a very sentimental person, I love to surround my self with things with family history and meaning. We have had a lot of fun designing unique and creative spaces to utilize every square inch of this house. With my style I would happily create wall storage using old apple crates, soda crates, pallets, what have you. Mr. Norm, although he likes those items in decor, as an engineer, he is always looking at the weight bearing loads, verifying the load per square foot and lets me know that my idea of using a vintage junk crate to hold 50 pounds of mason jars may not work.

We got various sizes, we will be suspending them on the wall behind the stairs. I had to laugh, I planned on them being from floor to ceiling. Mr. Norm had other ideas, which I absolutely LOVE. I can not wait to share the finished project. A little inspiration until then.

I've been searching for chairs to go with the farm table Mr. Norm made. Only need a couple.
We built a "L" bench, I'm working on the cushions and the finishing touches of that area. Really
starting to look great. Think this may be the one thing that could send it over the top.

Spring Snow Storm = Burlap Chargers

Well Folks, as I type this we are in the midst of a SPRING BLIZZARD. Power outages throughout the day and predictions of up to 1 & 1/2 feet of snow. Yesterday, I was out and about in flip flops, today I brought back the snowshoes. My plans of heading into the winery today ~ changed.

Not sure why, but when I have unexpected changes in my schedule, I have a difficult time adjusting. Don't get me wrong, I am adaptable to most situations, I just seem to be more efficient when I have a plan. I started the day off finishing up on some menus for some upcoming Spring/Summer Events at work. Once that was checked off, I decided to snoop around the new site that my daughter Miss Sarah invited me to join.

OH MY WORD! A fair warning it is addicting. Guess who I found on there? Yup, Miss Donna.

I popped on over to her blog only to discover that she too had discovered it and had been sharing the good news. What site am I referring to? PINTEREST.com. Hold on, you thought blogging was time consuming and addicting. Combine the two and WOW. Time management, Time management, Time Management.

They say if you repeat something long enough, it will happen. I am usually very efficient with my time, this site may change that. Just look at some of the things one can find will managing ones time.

Miss Sarah incorporated burlap into her wedding. It was a fantastic touch to her simply rustic elegant day.

She made 22 table runners and has yards of burlap left over. She and I have emailed photos back and forth with projects we'd like to do using the leftovers. I have done a few at the farm, with burlap I've had laying around. One of the first was my old cook~stove base turned settee

Miss Sarah made the pillow, I made the rest. Over the past few months I've pulled the yards of burlap I have out. Walked around the farm, hanging it here and there. Never quite sure how I'm going to put it to use. I do have plans to add some to a blanket. I love this look and think it would be great in my loft.

All the snooping around PINTEREST motivated me to once again pull that burlap out. Around the farmhouse I walked. Hanging it here, draping it there. NOTHING! Next! I have a wedding scheduled in August and the bride has requested a very unique cake. OK, I'll play around in the kitchen and see what I can come up with there. I pulled out all the ingredients, turn the oven on, pulled out the cake pans, and then the cake rounds. Hmmmm.... cake rounds and burlap....

Tried two versions, not sure which I like better.

This one I used burlap from a failed attempt of something else that went through

my brain, held onto to the failed project thinking I might be able to use it somehow, somewhere.

Ooops ~ lost power, poor light.

Another power bump ~ will get better photos soon.

When I finally get out, I plan on picking up some spray poly to see if

it will help with the natural shedding of the burlap and keeping them clean.

Last spring, to help me organize my garden tools, I gathered up

a couple of old pallets and created a unique storage area.

With a love of worn old farm road signs, I decided to add some

flair to the pallets with the hopes creating some of my worn farm

signs. I am beyond excited as the snow melts and reveals the results.

Progress at the Farm

Yes, we are back! Even though you've not seen or heard from me in weeks, we've been busy!. After a wonderfully restful and restorative vacation, we returned with a renewed energy to get some projects done here at the farm. One being the room where this beautiful farm table resides. Mr. Norm created this beauty from a scrap pallet he brought home from work. Yes, I am blessed!

We've been finishing up on mudding, sanding, painting. trim work and now we are on to decor. Found some

really cool old pieces that I'm putting some personal touches on and can not wait to hang them.

We're Back

It has been an amazing couple of weeks. I want to send out a big Thank You to Miss Sarah

for being a guest poster here at the farm. She and her husband did a lot of work to make

it possible for Mr. Norm and I to get away. Get away we did. We had a fabulous trip.

We slept until we were done. Enjoyed the local treasures.

The scenery was breath taking. The food ~ YUM!

Snorkeling ~ Swimming~ Eating~ Drinking~ Relaxing

Our biggest decision - pool side or surf side.

Enjoyed many of the local eateries. Inspiration with every morsel of food and drink we had.

Brought back many new spices to experiment with.

Welcomed home to an ice storm and below normal temperatures.
A whooping 100 degree difference our last day there.

Always a blessing to be home.

Just a bit challenging when you return to 48 hours of no power.

Mom and Dad made it back safely from their vacation, and had a great time. I'm sure she'll tell you all about it soon! However, they arrived home just in time for a big ice storm and have been without power for 2 days and nights now.

Successfully completing Day 6 of my very first Beth Moore bible study, "Stepping Up". [What an AMAZING journey it has been!]

Getting a PIF [paid in full] by borrower e-mail notification for one of my student loans.

Whoo-hoo! Total Count: Three down a billion to go....but one step closer to our goal of being debt free!

YUM #4:

Trying to find a spot to hang my rock coat hanger/shelf made by my husband out of rocks and drift wood from a beach we always frequent in Lubec, ME.

I know it must sound like a broken record, believe me, I would agree with you, but......

We had another cold spell and more snow up here at the Turner Farm. About 20" in the past 3 days and it's still falling.

The chickens have huddled up together in the coop, the dogs won't even poke their noses outside, and my husband has been busy plowing, shoveling, snow blowing, and endlessly filling the wood furnace.

The snow has covered the farm in a blanket of silence.

Even the trees are too cold to sway in the breeze

I'm completely spoiled to have a husband do ALL that work....but while he was busy outside, I was busy making plans for my next diy project and cooking dinner [READ: Mac n' Cheese in a box with fruit smoothies] in Mom's kitchen on what I like to call:

The stove with a Hemi.

Mom doesn't usually say too much about her stove on here, but I will say it for her-

10 Burners. 2 ovens. This thing is a beast.....it boiled a pot of water WAY under a minute. And those directions to cook for 8 minutes? Well it was actually more like 3 minutes. I almost burnt the Mac n' Cheese from a box. How does that even happen???

Gary and I have been carefully conspiring plans to move the stove down to our little 900sqft rental house 30 minutes away to replace our circa 1960's easy bake oven before mom and dad return. What do you think?

Can we pull it off without her noticing??

Anyways, what I really wanted to let you know was that just because Mom is on vacation the YUMS link party isn't going on vacation too.....

Hey there, Sarah here.......Laurie's oldest daughter.

Turns out, you're stuck with me for the next week as mom and dad have skipped town to tropical weather just in time for us to get hit with a foot of snow.

Jealous? Yeah me too.

I was left here in charge of the blog, the farm, and the critters. I was asked to not reveal anything too embarrassing, to break anything, burn anything down, or lose any chickens.

Well, I'll see what I can do, but I certainly didn't make any promises.

Mom did want to let you all know that while she's got her toes in the sand, she is thinking of you all and sends a sunny hello.

Well, we might as well get to know each other a bit, since I'll be here for a few days.

Bare with me, my mom has rocked this blogging thing, and well....I have not.

A bit about me:

I, like my mother, love junk.

I also am a DIY gal

I, unlike my mother, do not cook.....often nor well.

I'm a mid (to late) 20-something and have been married for a whoopin' 6 months.

I graduated in Animal and Vet Science and spent my school days milking and taking care of cows. I love farm life, and hope to soon run a small farm of my own.

For now, I work as a scientific technician in a veterinary diagnostics lab, where there is a whole warehouse dedicated to antique and vintage lab equipment. Yeah, you name it. When things are slow and quiet at work, I go out back to the warehouse and drool over all the antique glass lab-ware, metal rusty lab trinkets, etc.

I dream my someday house will have a touch of vintage science.

Sometimes the lab decides to get rid of such things and puts them up for grabs....and I come home with some pretty sweet loot which I carefully tuck away for the day when we buy our first house and I can decorate with my vintage science memorabilia

My latest loot from the lab is a sweet vintage microscope circa early 1900's.

My husband is into science as well. He's finishing his PhD in biomedical engineering in cancer research.

You can call us nerdy, it's ok- we take it as a compliment.

Anyways, it was so nice to meet you! We'll talk more soon, but for now, I've got to go out and start shoveling a path to those chickens.

Mr Norm's Mom is the ultimate Junker.

She tells me she was junking way before junking was cool

She has been "cleaning" house and passing many of her

treasures on to me. Yeah, I know! WOW

While I plan where and how I'm going to display these treasures

I have them sitting on a windowsill at the bottom of my stairs, in a

baking mold that Grammie T. also passed along to me.

Makes me smile every time I go up or down the stairs

Country Life ~ From my Kitchen Window ~ YUM #3

I never know what I may see from the farmhouse kitchen.

Today while baking, these beautiful creatures caught my

attention. I didn't have time to do a proper photo shoot.

Is there anything more majestic than a bald eagle?

I loved watching them. Well, until one decided

to land on the coop. What would I do if he decided one of the chicks

looked like dinner? Thankfully, something in the back field captured his attention.

I have been experimenting with different recipes using our ales that are

produced at our new brewery (at work ~ not on the farm)

Yes, I joined the 30 day smoothie challenge.

Loved it and am still drinking smoothies for most of my breakfasts and lunches.

No, I did not go completely raw. Earning an income from teaching

people how to pair food and wine, and creating new recipes makes it difficult to follow.

I do eat a healthy balanced diet and lean towards mostly fresh fruits and vegetables.

And yes, I love this bread. I've made it utilizing several of our ales.

Our stout gives it a rich molasses flavor. Reminds me of my gramp.

When we were young he'd make biscuits and serve them with molasses. YUM.

When our wheat ale is brewery the entire building smells like caramelized bananas.

Gives this bread that fabulous flavor.

Many of you have asked for the recipe.

Please remember that I hardly ever measure.

Simple Beer Bread

3 cups flour

3 tsps baking powder

1 tsp salt

1/4 cup sugar

12 oz Ale

1/2 cup melted butter

I toss in fresh finely chopped rosemary and/or thyme

Note: Self rising flour has baking powder and salt ~ omit these two if using Self rising

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Spray bread pan

Mix first 4 ingredients

toss in herbs.

Transfer to bread pan.

Top with butter.

Bake 1 hour.

I have played with variations. Love adding various cheeses and other herbs.

Construction on the farm house has come to a stand still

It has been a long process.

Oh, I'm not whining, at least I keep telling myself that.

I love the process (I keep telling myself that too!!)

I'm just missing some of my favorite things

My YUMs.

I see your beautiful homes and I yearn (makes me sound old)

I yearn for the days.....

Mr. Norm finds me wandering amongst the power tools, sheet rock, and paint.

Clinging to some of my things that have made the journey to the farm.

I lovingly lay them out on the construction dust covered floors.

Planning what treasures that currently insulated wall will hold.

All the while in the midst of a mental war.

A lot of work goes into a perfectly sheet rocked wall.

30-Day Challenge ~ Day 15

A challenge within the challenge

The addition of a salad a day. Not difficult for

me as I LOVE fresh salads.

My blender decided it had enough and retired.

Not wanting all this goodness to go to waste, I'll be

shopping for a new blender tomorrow.

Loving the smoothies in the am.

Started some fresh sprouts today,

a wonderful Christmas Gift from the

family swap.

Now the the rest of the challenge

within the challenge.

In addition to the daily smoothie:

Add a fresh salad

At least 1 hour of exercise a day

At least 1/2 spent outside.

No meat.

How am I feeling with my first 15 days you ask?

Why fabulous thank you!

Increased energy, decreased mental fog, increased

sleep and decreased 7lbs!

We can no longer see the chicks..

I'm bundling up and headed out to shovel.

30-Day Challenge

With the New Year came some new goals.

Many in my family are participating in a healing

detox. A 30-day Green Smoothie Challenge.

With some instituting a Raw Food Diet. Each

member will adjust the challenge to accommodate

their likes and their lifestyle.

I've joined the challenge. Over the next 30-days,

I'll be sharing links to family member blogs, recipes

I use and daily tips. I've made adjustments to fit

my life. My work life may be a challenge, with

several events and cooking classes coming up.

Mr. Norm does not participate in the challenges.

For some odd reason, the creativeness with my

cooking is heightened during these times of

cleansing.

Mr. Norm is fed well, whether I'm detoxing or not.

I think I'm just more aware or maybe the brain fog

is lifting.

The following conversation occurred last night while

we were preparing dinner:

Mr Norm: Did the bread go the bed?

Me: What?

Mr. Norm: Did you put the bread to bed?

Me: What?

Mr. Norm: Did you put the bread back in the sleeping

bag Sarah made you for Christmas?

~ Baby It's Cold Outside ~

I knew work would be too busy around the holidays
for me to blog. Planning and executing Christmas
Parties for others always drain me, in a positive way.
By New Year's Day I had big plans ~

I had hired someone to redesign my blog, with a plan to
reveal and share my New Year's Goals and completion of

some of my latest projects, along with the fun and
festive creations made for the celebrations

As I write, I am on a hunt for a new blog designer.
Paint sits on the floor in the exact same place it
was in early December. Funky decor leans
against the wall waiting to find it's new home.

Another project popped up and took priority.
One that leaves me breathless, my legs aching
Forcing me to sleep better than I had in months.

Recharging my internal batteries, on snowshoes...

Traditions~

It appears that my girls may be adopting a tradition.
One that is tugging on my heart.

First to announce a change in their home was Miss
Kristin. She and her husband are under going some
major renovations and a tree would be in the way.
She is more like her mom than she cares to admit!

Next came the announcement from Miss Sarah. Her
husband is in the midst of finishing his doctorate and
they are up in the air as to where they will be.
The idea that my girls would not have a tree sent my
heart a spinning.

A few fresh greens and a festive ribbon, Oh my!

When Miss Sarah announced on fb that they
would not be having a tree, all the moms united.
Prompting Miss Sarah to do some research of her
own.

my girls and I will be pulling out the
power tools and the baking dishes...

they will have a Christmas tree

or two...

I may just have to keep one of these
for the farm.

My true love gave to me...

something that is a little rusty....

I know! I'm blaming it on this dang head cold

thingy. Today I am one with the tissues.

Boy, my teeth hurt...

Speaking of decorating, WOW all of you

have been busy! Your Christmas mantels

and other decorations are looking

Fabulous.

I'll be honest, I'm a wee bit envious.

I'm really wanting this room done

It's going to be just like Christmas when

I can finally unpack .

In the land of misfits ~ storage unit

for 3 years Santa has to find his way this year!

Determined to add some cheer to this

construction zone, I bundled up and ventured outside

and chopped down our tree

Concerned that it might dry out too much before

Christmas Day, I used some of the wet foam we had

left over from Miss Sarah's wedding.

covered that with some of what nature provided me.

As I sip on my tea, begging Mr. Norm to pull my

teeth ~ I smile~ bumbles bounce and Charlie Brown would

be proud.

I'll be back in the am to post some photos.~ by the

time I got it set up and decorated it was dark and

my nose was shining bright.

Oh and this galvanized thingy...

Hope you all had a Joyous Thanksgiving with family
and friends. We had a fabulous 4 day weekend.
Was blessed with a wonderful Thanksgiving, worked
on many projects and had some glorious time
together.

I am beyond excited with our latest construction projects.

on the farm

I am resisting the urge to pull out my camera, point n shoot,
load and show you all that is happening.

Over the last few weeks, I've been trying to dedicate time
each day to read and learn more about taking good photos.
I've spent time over at Funky Junk Interiors reading her tips
and Modern Prairie Girl had a fabulous series of posts
that I printed out and am working my way through.

I still have that cocked~head~thing going on!

I'm discovering a side of me that I really didn't know existed.
When it comes to taking photos....do I dare say it?... No it
can't be!!! Yup, I can't believe it.... I'm impatient.

That my friend is a hard pill for me to swallow. I pride myself
on my patience. I have lived in an in process home for
almost 4 years now. Patience of a saint I tell you!
Yes, I'm laughing at myself as I type this.

Ask my dear mother-in-law. Almost every time we
chat on the phone and I update her with our progress on
the farm, she will say "Divorce him, no other women out
there would put up with living that way". It makes me
laugh every time. It sounds as though I didn't have a choice
in this adventure of ours.

If I recall, it may of been my idea and he was so good to go
along with it! Think we were both wanting the adventure,
not fully understanding the journey we were about to take.

Back to the photos. Donna over at Funky Junk has said it
in almost every post I have read on photo skills and yes,
Lara at Modern Prairie Girl confirmed.....
photo shoots are work.

But I just want to click and shoot and have our projects look
as good on here as they do in real life and gulp...
I want it now.

Again, laughing at this discovery and learning the hard way.

I was so anxious for you all to see the results of the
mudding and sanding job, along with the COLOR that
now lives in our little nook.

Despite the poor lighting created partly from the lack
of windows in that room and partly from the natural
wood ceiling, I jumped right in and started clicking
away. Imagine my displeasure when I clicked on my
post from another computer!

Oh my!! My excitement bubble burst!

So today, I'm a listening!

How we spent our vacation ~

Mr. Norm had vacation last week. My job is such that I can
usually control the hours I work. I did have a few cooking
classes and an event on the schedule. Even so,
we got a lot accomplished in a week.

We have radiant heat in all the floors, along with

the fact that we have animals, we decided tile was

the way to go.

OH~SO~TOASTY this time of year!

I've had a difficult time capturing the true colors of

the tile. There is little natural light in this room

and I've been unable to locate the work lights.

We've been framing...

tonight I've been mudding sheet rock and filling

nail holes with wood putty.....

Tomorrow, I hope to be painting. I'm slightly nervous
about it. It is not easy for me to go with color.
In our previous home, our color scheme was hard wood
floors, white walls, white cabinets, white furniture.
I'm still drawn to the white rooms that are featured in
blogland. But I've discovered on this journey of mine,
that I really love the color, texture, warmth of nature's
palette.

Build a House For Their House

As many of you know, by profession I am a Chef.

I think you may also know that I love to build.

A building project near and dear to my heart.

Each year building houses to help raise funds for a local

homeless shelter.

The shelter has a campaign to raise funds for a

new home for battered women and children.

"Build a House For Their House"

Combining our passion to help, love of cooking and

building. Our annual Gingerbread House Festival was born.

Construction is underway

Fall Harvest

We had our first snow of the season this week.

We were not quite ready ~ it's a bit early!

We still had harvesting to do.

With a bit of scurrying ~ we have checked that off

our to-do list. It feels so good, especially since

today is another COLD Fall day. I'm still in my pjs.

Might remain that way.

Enjoying the view and enjoying my new fall favorite!

I'm addicted! This was my BREAKFAST bowl this

morning. I love, love, love fall harvest and all the

goodness the garden has to offer. Roasted Root

Vegetable Salad with a Warm Maple Mustard Vinaigrette

has ranked number one in my kitchen for weeks now.

Last night things changed! Butternut Squash, Sweet

Potato, Maple and a bit of Marsala infused together

to create this GLORIOUS soup! Just the energy boost

needed to tackle that to-do list. The one required

to ensure that we are all gathered around

While engineering a project at work, he received some

machine parts that were shipped in on these beauties.

We went to work pulling nails and taking an inventory

of what we had on hand. With building our own home we

always have leftovers from other projects.

Check! we had all the required supplies to do this project.

Next Step: Measure, Cut, Measure, Cut

counters from this beautiful wood.

Once it started to come together

And the true beauty of the wood

began to be revealed

we both decided it would

make a better table.

It's Rustic, It's original, and it was Free

I'm so excited!

We rubbed it with Linseed Oil and the colors

just popped. We have it in the kitchen right now.

We are working on tiling the floor, sheet rocking the walls,

constructing the L-Shaped Breakfast Nook and Benches.

Completion Date Goal: Thanksgiving

First Time in 5 years we'll be able to gather at

a real table!

Pottery Barn

Mr. Norm and I have been busy trying to finish up on some of the projects that have been hanging around the farm. Setting goals to check some items off the ever growing To-Do list. Last weekend we worked on completing our counters in the kitchen. The plans of using the beautiful mahogany lumber we reclaimed from the free shipping pallets ~ changed! As the pieces were put together, simultaneously we decided there was a much better use for this gorgeous creation.

Revised Goal: Complete by Thanksgiving!
